Nouna was trying to wing it, but the enchantment had unforeseen consequences. Poor Nouna now has to deal with her failed experiment. Help her send the ghosts back by playing them a melody.

I used Wick Editor, Gimp, and Sonic Pi to make this game.

Disclaimer:

Nouna was created by an artist back in 2008. I don't recall his name, unfortunately. And the castle is a digital image of a haunted house on the internet that has many variations.

NB: The artist's name is Ayrine, and the image was hosted on centerblog.net 17 years ago.

I also used Coyote's Joker's Lair, which is avaible for free on YT's sound library, as an intro to my small project.   All assets are Creative Commons.

This is a really cool idea! I like the mix of whack-a-mole style gameplay with a musical puzzle. I managed to break the game unfortunately- the countdown got stuck at 24 and the ghosts stopped appearing. Hitting rewind started the background music again, but the enemies didn't reappear. I suspect part of the problem is playing the game on a laptop- I had to scroll up and down a lot to see the whole screen, which involved clicking off  the game. Nonetheless, I think it is fun and look forward to seeing what you do next :)

Thank you for trying my game. The Rewind button is supposed to take you back to the fist screen, so you can refresh the page by pressing "f5" on your keyboard. Browser games don't restart on their own. It's one of the many limitations I ran into when I started developing in JavaScript.

Well, that was something. I have to admit, I have a very bad musical taste and a poor understanding of music, so any musical challenge in a video game is almost always exponentially harder for me. This one was not an exclusion. I clicked on some ghosts many times, and then a musical sheet appeared, and a melody played. That was it, I was not even able to say if I won or lost, and what results my actions had.

I say all this not to say that the game is bad, just to highlight what a strange experience it was. And although I felt like I missed something, I still kind of enjoyed it; the strangeness of visuals, spooky sounds, and cryptic mechanics all added to the sense of mystery.

Thank you for playing my game. The witch Nouna has to dispel the ghosts with a melody (i.e. a collection of notes), and the notes are hidden inside the ghosts. To get a note (i.e. a musical sound), you have to tap each ghost a couple of times. When a note is released, a "clicking sound" is heard.

However, if you release any note other than  "F3" first, then all your progress is lost. And to find the monster with the "F3" note, you need to pay attention to the sound they make when you tap on them. The monster with the "F3" note doesn't growl when you click/tap on it.

Finally, when you collect all the notes to the melody, you are advanced to the witch's musical diary, where you can hear the full melody, and even play it manually if you wish to. Then a button will appear at the bottom to the right, where it'll take you the final screen.

I wanted to add a bit of a mystical flare to the game, that's why I added the melody.

Thanks for the explanation! Now it all definitely makes more sense, and the puzzle seems much more interesting to me, I only wish the game itself communicated this information.

I loved the art style, I would like to see a point-and-click like this

Thank you for your kind words. I'll definitely consider making a point-and-click in the future.
